Your visit begins with a traditional warrior welcome — full body paint, war chants, and ceremonial spears. It's theatrical but rooted in genuine custom, designed historically to test whether guests came in peace.
Sit cross-legged in the chief's bure. Watch the kava root being pounded and mixed in a traditional tanoa bowl. When offered, clap once, drink the bilo (coconut cup) in one go, then clap three times. You're now part of the family.
Watch (and try) traditional skills passed down through generations: pottery making, mat weaving, wood carving, and fire-lighting using only friction. You'll leave with appreciation for Fiji's pre-industrial expertise.
Light Fijian lunch with the village family — fresh fruit, roti, dalo (taro), and traditional rourou (taro leaves in coconut cream). Vegetarian and dietary requests accommodated with notice.

The village welcomes you warmly — and asks for the same respect any guest would show entering someone's home. Modest clothing is essential.
Shoulders and knees covered. Long pants/skirt or sulu wrap. No swimwear, short shorts or strappy tops.
You'll remove shoes entering bures (traditional houses). Sandals or easy slip-on shoes ideal.
Bringing a small gift (waka root for kava ~$20 from Nadi market) is appreciated but not required — we handle the formal sevusevu.
Kava is unusual. Crafts may seem slow. The pace is unhurried. Embrace it — that's the point.
Photos welcome but ALWAYS ask before photographing villagers. Some bures (sacred spaces) are no-photo zones.
